On November 23rd, students who are eligible for the 10% refund of certain fees received an email about the refund process. Students received one of two emails, depending on their circumstances. Both versions are below. Families of eligible students also received the email.

For students whose refund will be automatically refunded (student-athletes and federal financial aid recipients)

Dear [Insert Student Name],

One of our goals this fall was to have students here for in-person learning until Thanksgiving. We are very pleased that we could do that and are grateful to all of our students for doing their part to keep campus open.

As we shared in a previous communication, students who leave campus at the Thanksgiving holiday and complete the remainder of the semester from home will receive a 10 percent refund of the following fees, as applicable:

  • Housing
  • Meal plans
  • Wellness fees
  • Parking fees (fall semester only)

Your refund amount

You can log on to DEAC (http://finance.wfu.edu/sfs/deac) on December 10th to see the amount of your refund. Additional information about refunds, and the circumstances that may impact the amount of your refund, can be found here.

How you will get your refund

Because you are a federal financial aid recipient and/or a student-athlete, your refund will be sent to you automatically; no action is required on your part. If you had previously set up direct deposit, your refund will be delivered that way; otherwise, a check will be mailed to your permanent address on or before December 15, 2020.

Important notes

If you have utilized funds from a 529 plan to pay for any portion of your fall semester charges, please consult your tax adviser as soon as possible for guidance on how to handle these refunds.

If you receive federal student aid, it is important to remember that federal aid may only be used to pay for educational expenses.

Questions

If you have general questions about the refund process, please contact the Wake Forest Call Center 336-758-7500 (10 a.m.-3 p.m. Eastern) or submit a question online. May you enjoy the upcoming holidays and the winter break. I wish you continued good health and wellbeing.

How you will get your refund

Because the date for spring tuition payment is January 1, 2021, your refund will be left on your student account to be automatically applied to your spring bill.

If you do not wish to leave your refund on your student account, fill out the online refund request form here. Please be sure you have signed up for Direct Deposit; this is the preferred way to process refunds, as it ensures that we do not mail a check to an incorrect address. Refund requests are typically processed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Important note

If you have utilized funds from a 529 plan to pay for any portion of your fall semester charges, please consult your tax adviser as soon as possible for guidance on how to handle these refunds.
