Good Morning –

We hope this message finds you well! We’re writing to provide an update on Winter Break and your housing at the Crowne Properties. All students living in University-sponsored housing at one of the Crowne Properties are required to declare their intentions for where they plan to reside after November 24 via the Winter 2020 process on our Housing Portal at go.wfu.edu/housingportal.

Below we explain the different intent options and their impact on refunds and/or additional charges.

I am NOT remaining in Winston-Salem after November 24th.

  • Students who depart their housing by 5 p.m. on November 24 will be eligible for the 10 percent refund as outlined by the University (see October 19 update).
  • Individuals in this category will be expected to turn in their apartment keys to their property office by 5 p.m. on November 24. You would not be able to return to your apartment until January 24.

I am remaining in Winston-Salem until the end of the Fall 2020 Semester (Dec. 13th).

  • Students who remain in their housing after November 24, will not receive the 10 percent refund as outlined by the University (see October 19 update), but there will be no additional charge for housing during this time.
  • Individuals in this category will be expected to turn in their apartment keys to their property office by 2 p.m. on December 13. You would not be able to return to your apartment until January 24.

I am remaining in Winston-Salem for some portion of the winter break – OR – I am remaining in Winston-Salem until the Spring 2021 semester.

  • Students who depart their housing by 5 p.m. on November 24 will be eligible for the 10 percent refund as outlined by the University (see October 19 update).
    • Individuals in this category will be expected to turn in their apartment keys to their property office by 5 p.m. on November 24. You would not be able to pick up your key and return to your apartment until December 14.
  • Students who remain in their housing after November 24 and depart at some point during the Winter Break or remain in Winston for the full break, will not receive the 10 percent refund as outlined by the University. These students will not need to turn in their apartment keys.

All students who remain in their housing after December 13 or return prior to January 24 will incur an additional housing charge of $1,092, which will be charged to their student account. This charge covers the December 13 to January 23 period which is not part of the academic year housing contract. This charge is non-refundable, and may not be pro-rated.

Please plan to submit your Winter Break intent by 11:59 PM on Sunday, November 1. If we don’t receive an intent from you, we will attempt to follow-up with you; if you do not respond, we will assume that you are remaining in Winston-Salem for some portion of the winter break and move forward accordingly (i.e., your account will be charged as noted above).

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at housing@wfu.edu.

Best –
