Good Afternoon –

I am writing today with some additional details as we approach our housing selection process beginning next week.

Again, we remain thankful your patience and understanding as we finalize our plans for the fall semester. For the latest on the University’s fall plans, visit campushealth.wfu.edu. For more details about our residential offerings, visit the Office of Residence Life and Housing website at rlh.wfu.edu.

Housing Availability

As we approach housing assignments and selections, we wanted to clarify the availability and intentions for various types and locations of housing.

For our first-year students, you will be assigned housing on the Reynolda Campus either in one of our South Campus Residence Halls or in Poteat, Huffman, Taylor, or Efird Halls on Hearn Plaza (the Quad).

For our continuing students, we plan to release different types of housing for each selection day (outlined below):

  • Roommate groups being led by a senior should expect availability in on-campus apartments, including Deacon Place, as well as our University-sponsored housing (see below).
  • In addition to any units that remain available after senior selection, roommate groups being led by a junior should expect availability in our on-campus apartments, and limited availability in some of our suite-style communities (e.g. Dogwood).
  • Finally, in addition to any units that remain available after junior and senior selection, roommate groups being led by a sophomore should expect availability in our suite (e.g. Dogwood) and semi-suite communities (e.g. Kitchin).

University-Sponsored Housing

Wake Forest has secured additional spaces in apartment complexes near campus and on existing shuttle routes, which will function as University-sponsored housing. We are happy to share that these properties include Crowne Oakes, Crowne Park, and Crowne Polo.

At the Crowne Properties, we have an assortment of furnished units including one bedroom, one bath; two bedrooms, two baths; and three bedrooms, two baths. Each bedroom will be a single occupancy room. Students who select from these spaces will proceed through the University’s housing selection/agreement process. The rate for these units is $5,977 per semester – inclusive of utilities – and will be charged to student accounts. Students living at Crowne Properties will be required to carry a meal plan with their minimum option being the Apartment Plan.

In addition, the University has made arrangements with Deacon Station to reserve apartments at this complex for students who are interested in residing at Deacon Station. Each apartment at Deacon Station comes fully furnished and has four single occupancy bedrooms and four bathrooms. Students who select from these spaces will be referred to Deacon Station to secure a private lease. The term of that lease will be August 15, 2020, to July 23, 2021. Students who lease with Deacon Station will receive a rental rate of $670 per month. In addition, students will be responsible for paying any electricity charges that exceed $140 per month per unit. Some parking spaces will be available for a $25 per month parking fee payable to Deacon Station. Any other charges for this property will be payable by the student directly to Deacon Station as well. Note that this process will require an application from the student, a guarantor, and will be subject to Deacon Station’s Rental Application Criteria. Students living at Deacon Station will not be required to have a meal plan and will be considered off-campus students.

Housing Rates

As noted by leadership in their message yesterday, tuition and fees are based on the Board of Trustees-approved structure presented this spring.

With regards to housing, current estimated housing charges are based on the double rate and meal plans have been assigned at the Base Plan, as outlined in the University’s Cost of Attendance. These charges will be adjusted separately when you finalize your selections.

The housing rate will be based on the published rates with the addition of a modified single rate. Detailed information is available on the Residence Life and Housing website.

Housing Configurations (and Availability)

Housing configurations are now available for review on our Housing Portal. Please click here to access those. You do NOT need to be logged into the portal to view these configurations.

Please note that these tentative configurations below for planning purposes only. Configurations are subject to change by the Office of Residence Life and Housing until a room is selected.

Move-In Appointments

First-year students will be able to schedule their move-in appointment when first-year housing assignments are released on Friday, July 31. We look forward to welcoming our incoming students to campus Monday, August 17 through Thursday, August 20.

Continuing students will be able to select their move-in appointments as the final part of their housing selection process. Continuing student move-in will take place Thursday, August 20 through Monday, August 24.

Your selection times are now visible on the Housing Portal as a part of the Housing Application. To view them, please visit go.wfu.edu/housingportal and select the 2020-2021 Housing Application. As a reminder, our Housing Portal has a user limit, if you receive a log-in error, please try again at a later time; we appreciate your patience in this area. We will not be able to provide selection times via phone or email.

Housing and Part-Time Status

As noted in the University Bulletin, “A student may not register for part-time status (i.e., fewer than 12 hours in a single semester) without specific permission from the Office of Academic Advising by the last day to add a class. Approval for part-time status requires that students pay for such work on a per-hour basis. Petitions for part-time status after the last day to add a class will be denied, except in the case of special circumstances, and the student will be required to pay full tuition. Part-time students may be ineligible for campus housing unless an exception is made by the Office of Residence Life and Housing”.

With our reduced occupancy, students will need to be full-time status in order to live in University or University-sponsored Housing. Individuals wishing to live on-campus as a part-time student should write to housing@wfu.edu to explain their situation and request an exception to this policy.

Housing and Dining Agreements

As we move into the housing selection process, our Housing and Dining Agreements are now available for review on our website. Students, or parent/guardian if under 18, will sign these agreements as a part of the Housing Selection process.
