The following message was sent to international members of our campus community from the Director of International Student and Scholar Services

—————–

Dear International Community,

As you may have heard in the news, the Coronavirus is affecting many communities around the world. The ISSS team hopes that each of you and your families are healthy and safe during this time. Many of you have contacted ISSS regarding questions about your spring break travel and summer plans. Right now, it’s still too early to make definitive decisions on whether you should or should not travel, especially for summer.

For those who are from countries that are currently under an active travel ban, we recommend that you not leave the U.S. There are three travel bans in place, Travel ban 3.0, travel ban 4.0, and a Coronavirus travel ban. Please click here for information about travel bans 3.0 and 4.0. Please click here for information about the Coronavirus travel ban. There are very specific rules for each travel ban based on your country of citizenship.

ISSS is not preventing you from traveling, but we want you to be informed. Our main concern is that if you leave the U.S., you may not be able to return to the U.S. If you have questions about your planned travel please contact ISSS (isss@wfu.edu). For international students, we have created a form to collect information regarding any resources or support that you may need over the summer. We do not know what changes may be in place this summer so we need to plan ahead. We ask that everyone complete this form so that we can accurately account for students who may need additional support over the summer. Please note that if we are not able to collect accurate information we may not be able to provide as much support for our international populations. If you choose not to participate it is okay, but this will affect how the university plans staffing, housing, food, and financial obligations.

If you are an international student, we ask that you complete this form by Friday, March 6, 2020.

If you are an international employee on a J-1, H-1B, or E-3 visa status sponsored by WFU please email isss@wfu.edu with information regarding specific support that you may need this summer.

We appreciate your time and will continue to work to support you in the best way possible. We also hope that you will continue to support each other and communicate any challenges, questions, and concerns to ISSS.

Sincerely,

Kelia Hubbard
Director, International Student & Scholar Services
